The GCSE/IGCSE is the world’s most popular international curriculum for middle school students. Whilst typically associated with the University of Cambridge, the IGCSEs are also offered by Edexcel and Oxford AQA – whilst the syllabi are essentially the same, the format of the exams will be slightly different. As of now, the Cambridge exam board offers over 70 subjects – certain subjects feature both a Core and Extended curriculum so as to accommodate the interests of ambitious students.
It is a good idea to take your GCSE/IGCSE qualifications seriously – university applications are typically made with the results from one’s high school programme, but universities (especially UK ones) may be inclined to consider the applicant’s GCSE/IGCSE grades when evaluating candidates. There have been notable instances of rejections of high-scoring IBDP students due to poor GCSE/IGCSE results.
