UK Universities

Admission & Immigration

The unrivaled cultural diversity of life in the UK gives one the chance to experience a truly multicultural environment and to develop a wide range of desirable skills that are now necessary to be a part of today’s global workforce.

Many institutions offer internship and placement opportunities; some even allow students to hold a part-time job whilst studying. Additionally, graduates are now eligible for the Graduate Visa – permitted to stay in the UK for up to 2 years.

UK Admissions

Before pursuing a higher education degree in the UK, it may be a good idea to understand how UK degrees are structured. Unlike the liberal arts education offered by most established U.S. institutions, most UK degrees demand specialization upon matriculation – the courses are essentially determined from the very beginning with very little variation. Whilst many UK universities do offer dual degrees, there still is little freedom as compared with its U.S. counterpart. Simply put, UK degrees are essentially fixed menus.

That being said, an undergraduate education in the UK will require a greater degree of master over subject-specific knowledge. UK students go into significantly more depth and typically come out with a more sophisticated understanding of the subject matter as compared to their U.S. counterparts. For those who have a clear idea of their future, the world class institutions of the UK may prove to be an attractive option.

Application Process

Students will need to register and apply through the Universities and College Admissions Service (UCAS).

Essential Items of a College Application:

  • High School Transcript
Request a copy of your transcript from your current/former institution if unavailable. If your school is familiar with UCAS, however, they will likely take care of the process for you.
  • Language Proficiency Tests for International Students
Colleges may require international applicants to submit proof of English proficiency, typically in the form of the TOEFL and/or the IELTS.
  • UCAS Personal Statement
This personal statement cannot exceed 4,000 characters and should specifically convey the applicant’s interest in their desired course.

College Application Deadlines

There are 4 general categories for UCAS deadlines:

  1. October – Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Science, and Dentistry.
This is also the deadline for Oxford and Cambridge applications.
  2. January 15 – Most Undergraduate Courses.
  3. March – Some Art and Design Courses.
  4. June 30 – Clearing (Late Deadline for Undergraduate Courses)
